), a real estate investment trust focused on acquiring and leasing properties occupied by financial institutions, today announced it has signed Wake Forest University Health Sciences (WFUHS) to a 24,887 square foot lease at the Wachovia Center, a Class-A office tower located at 100 N. Main Street in the heart of the central business district of Winston-Salem, North Carolina Winston-Salem is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 185,776; in 2004 the city annexed an additional 17,483 raising the population to 203,259. .

The space will be occupied by the administrative group of WFUHS's Division of Public Health Sciences and by part of that division's Department of Biostatistical Sciences. A total of 74 WFUHS employees will move to the Wachovia Center from the MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

According to Rick Eiseman, vice president of asset management for American Financial Realty, large contiguous space and parking was critical to the deal. "Wake Forest Health Sciences needed a large block of space and access to wealth of on-site parking. The Wachovia Center, with its open floor plans and on-site parking, provided the perfect combination. We are pleased to accommodate their user requirements and welcome them as a tenant."

The 535,000 square foot Class-A office tower, designed by world-famous architect Cesar Pelli, was originally built in 1995 as Wachovia's headquarters and is the tallest building in Winston-Salem. Sheathed in Olympia white granite, the building enjoys the distinction as the only granite domed skyscraper in the world. The building's amenities include a 16,500 sq. ft. cafeteria and outdoor dining area; full modern fitness center; in-house barber shop and shoe shine stand as well as on-site dry-cleaning and secure underground parking. Centrally located in the heart of Winston-Salem's business district, the building is easily accessible from Business I-40 and is within walking distance of the courthouse, Research Park, hotels, upscale restaurants and popular entertainment destinations.
