Prior to joining JPMorgan Chase & Co., he was a founding partner of The Beacon Group, a private investment partnership that was acquired in July 2000 by Chase Manhattan Corporation The Chase Manhattan Corporation was a bank holding company formed as parent of the Chase Manhattan Bank.

During its time as the parent company, it was led in succession by David Rockefeller, Willard C. Butcher, and Thomas G. Labrecque.
 (now JPMorgan Chase & Co.). Before co- founding The Beacon Group, Mr. Pote was Chief Executive Officer of First Fidelity Bancorporation.

He previously served on the board of SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline). He also previously served on the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board The President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB) is an advisor to the Executive Office of the President of the United States.
