In 1998, American Express acquired the non-attest assets of several Chicago area accounting firms, including Altschuler, Melvoin and Glasser LLP, the largest of the firms. Rolling Meadows-based Dennis Nelson &Company, Ltd. and its affiliate Prompt Access, Ltd., and Berger Goldstein &Company, Deerfield, were also acquired in 1998. Checkers Simon &Rosner, formerly Chicago's 13th largest accounting firm, was acquired in 1997.
