American Eurocopter has received production authorisation from the US Federal Aviation Administration for the UH-72A helicopter for the US Army's new Light Utility Helicopter programme. The first UH-72A, Lakota no. 10, was delivered on August 27 under a $ 2 billion, ten-year contract--for which Eads North America is prime contractor--calling for 322 aircraft.
