) announced the reorganization of the company's business activities into two operating units.

American Ecology's nuclear waste programs will be consolidated under US Ecology, Inc., to be headquartered at the company's facility at Oak Ridge Oak Ridge, city (1990 pop. 27,310), Anderson and Roane counties, E Tenn., on Black Oak Ridge and the Clinch River; founded by the U.S. government 1942, inc. as an independent city 1959. , Tenn., with Jon Stouky as president.

Daily control of the the two new entities will be at the division level. As many corporate functions as possible will be pushed down to where the company's operations are managed on a day-to-day basis.

The move will streamline operations and reduce costs by removing intervening levels of management and putting the decision-making process closer to work in these two related but distinct lines of business.

The company's chairman, Jack K. Lemley, expressed his confidence in the consolidation, saying that "this reorganization which has been underway for a number of months, is already showing significant results in productivity and focus which will accelerate the company's return to profitability."

American Ecology operates a nuclear waste disposal facility in Washington, has received a license approval for a similar facility in California, has a license application pending for a nuclear disposal facility in Nebraska, and operates a nuclear processing facility in Tennessee. The Company also operates a chemical waste disposal facility in Nevada and two in Texas.
