American Ecology announces decision on EQ-The Environmental Quality Company.

) and EQ today jointly announced that they have terminated discussions regarding the AEC purchase of EQ-The Environmental Quality Company, a group of privately owned environmental services companies based in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The announcement of the letter of intent for the proposed acquisition was made on September 13, 1994.

"After due diligence and negotiations, the parties could not reach a mutually satisfactory agreement," said Cliff Wright, chief financial officer of American Ecology. "American Ecology will continue to enhance internal growth and pursue additional expansion opportunities," Wright added.

American Ecology operates a chemical waste disposal facility in Nevada and two in Texas. The Company also operates a low-level radioactive waste Noun 1. low-level radioactive waste - (medicine) radioactive waste consisting of objects that have been briefly exposed to radioactivity (as in certain medical tests)  (LLRW) disposal facility in Washington, has received a license approval for a similar facility in California, has a license application pending for a LLRW disposal facility in Nebraska, and operates a LLRW processing facility in Tennessee.
