US Ecology Idaho -- formerly Envirosafe Services of Idaho -- is the newest addition to American Ecology's family of hazardous and radioactive waste radioactive waste, material containing the unusable radioactive byproducts of the scientific, military, and industrial applications of nuclear energy. Since its radioactivity presents a serious health hazard (see radiation sickness), disposing of such material is a  processing and disposal companies. American Ecology purchased the Idaho subsidiary in February 2001.

Washington Group's design work will include engineering specifications for a double-lined barrier system that will meet or exceed regulatory requirements. American Ecology will invest several million dollars in the expansion project, with construction to begin after the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality completes environmental reviews.
