American Ecology Awarded New Contracts.

), today announced that the Company's US Ecology, Inc. subsidiary has been awarded two contracts for the removal and disposal of radioactive material radioactive material Radiation A substance that contains unstable–radioactive–atoms that give off radiation as they decay. "The New York and Texas contracts are expected to generate more than $1.5 million in revenue for the Company by the end of the third quarter of this year," Naser indicated.

The first contract, to remove and process radioactively contaminated air ducts at Brookhaven National Laboratories in Upton, New York Upton, New York is a hamlet on Long Island in the town of Brookhaven. It is the home of Brookhaven National Laboratory and of the National Weather Service station that provides forecasts for New York City, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, southern Connecticut and northeastern , is slated to begin in May, 2000. The job requires processing of approximately 1.2 million pounds of concrete and is part of an effort to decommission de·com·mis·sion

US Ecology will remove contaminated building materials, perform safety surveys, and then package and transport all resulting wastes for final disposal. Work on the contract is scheduled to begin in April 2000.
