) Thursday announced that it has acquired Caribbean Electronics Ltd., located in Vieux-Fort, St. Lucia, W.I.

ACC See adaptive cruise control.  will initially produce cable assemblies and components in St. Lucia required for a revolutionary electronic shelf price tag system A tag system is a deterministic computational model published by Emil Leon Post in 1943 as a simple form of string rewriting system. A tag system may also be viewed as an abstract machine, called a Post tag machine  for supermarket and other retail venues on a global scale. This shelf price tag system will virtually eliminate the current laborious process of changing shelf prices through the bar code system.

This 12,000 square foot facility was established seven years ago to perform electronic assembly including turnkey projects. It is fully equipped with surface mount and re-flow solder solder (sŏd`ər), metal alloy used in the molten state as a metallic binder. The type of solder to be used is determined by the metals to be united. Soft solders are commonly composed of lead and tin and have low melting points. Hard solders (i.  equipment and has a clean room for special high-tech assembly operations. The facility is strategically located to support customers in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and Europe.

ACC's Chief Executive Officer Tony Walk, stated: "We are excited to expand our offshore manufacturing capabilities by the addition of this facility. This is a key acquisition for ACC's strategy to target new emerging technology sectors. We now have an entire facility that can be utilized for producing these new technology products including the stellar technology of the supermarket shelf price tag system.

"The potential cost reduction in manufacturing costs is phenomenal, running from 25 percent to 60 percent over other locations. We believe that the acquisition of the St. Lucia plant along with current business will conservatively increase ACC's sales volume by $3- to $4-million over the next year."
