American Coatings Conference program set to take industry 'to the next level' in Charlotte.Ready to take the coatings industry "to the next level," the first American First American may refer to:
The Conference is being organized by NPCA NPCA National Parks Conservation Association NPCA National Peace Corps Association NPCA National Precast Concrete Association NPCA National Paint & Coatings Association NPCA National Pest Control Association NPCA Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and Vincentz Network, and will feature 72 technical papers organized in 12 focused topical sessions. These sessions will address new developments for specific coating applications: architectural, protective, and industry coatings; important raw material classes, such as polyurethanes and pigments; and innovative testing and laboratory methods. Five focused sessions will be devoted to special topics, including nanoparticles/nanostructures and their use in new high-performance coatings, specific solutions that address sustainable coatings developments, coatings with novel functionality, new easy-to-clean coatings, as well as highly innovative novel material classes. In addition, five 90-minute pre-conference tutorials, to be held on June 2, will offer an opportunity for a "crash course" update on some of the most important coatings technologies. Pre-Conference Tutorials Presented by industrial and academic experts in the field, the tutorials are separate from the conference and require separate registration. Tutorials to be offered include: TUTORIAL 1 -- Radiation Curing -- Michael L. Dvorchak, Bayer Material-Science. This program, designed in collaboration with RadTech North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , provides a concise overview on the fundamentals of radiation curing coatings, their benefits and limitations. TUTORIAL 2 -- Corrosion Protection -- Brian Skerry and Greg Girard, SSPC SSPC Society for Protective Coatings (formerly Steel Structures Painting Council) SSPC Steel Structures Painting Council (now Society for Protective Coatings) . Presented in collaboration with the Society for Protective Coatings SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) is a professional organization for the industrial coatings industry. It was founded in 1950 as the Steel Structures Painting Council, a non-profit association concerned with the use of coatings to protect industrial steel structures , this tutorial addresses the fundamentals of the electrochemical electrochemical /elec·tro·chem·i·cal/ (-kem´i-k'l) pertaining to interaction or interconversion of chemical and electrical energies. e·lec·tro·chem·i·cal adj. processes involved with the corrosion of metals. Typical ingredients and formulation characteristics of anti-corrosive coatings are discussed. TUTORIAL 3 -- Antimicrobial Surfaces -- Melinda Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff. , Reactive Surface Ltd. This tutorial will review the relatively new variety of novel functional coatings designed to offer hygienic hy·gien·ic adj. 1. Of or relating to hygiene. 2. Tending to promote or preserve health. 3. Sanitary. , antimicrobially active surfaces and outline current state-of-the-art applications. Tutorial 4 -- Polyurethanes -- Edwin Hortelano, Bayer MaterialScience LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol. LLC - Logical Link Control . Polyurethane coatings and their typical components will be reviewed and compared. PUR coatings technologies in use and their advantages and limitations will also be covered. TUTORIAL 5 -- Easy-to-Clean Coatings -- W. Marshall Ming, University of New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E). . This tutorial explains the concepts involved with coatings that offer easy cleanability of surfaces and reviews state-of-the-art systems.
