JERICHO, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1996--American Claims Evaluation Inc. (NASDAQ:AMCE) today announced that it had repurchased in one or more blocks an aggregate of 176,500 of its shares at current market prices in several transactions, most of which had been privately consummated.

Gelman, chairman of the company, stated that the board of directors viewed the repurchase as being in the best interest of the company and its shareholders for a variety of reasons including the fact that the repurchase was at a price below the book value of the shares, and that such shares would be available for future issuance by the company in connection with exercise of presently existing stock options or other corporate purposes, without causing additional dilution.

As previously announced, the company is reviewing strategic alternatives for maximizing shareholder value, focusing upon acquisition and/or the disposition of certain assets.
