American CinemaStores and National Amusements sign contract for satellite stores; eighth-largest theater chain to carry ACS's new satellite mini-stores.

) to install ACS's new satellite mini-stores in several of the chain's theater lobbies, as part of ACS's extensive expansion program.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Gill Champion, chairman and chief executive officer of American CinemaStores, and Shari E. Redstone, executive vice president of National Amusements National Amusements, Inc. is a privately owned media and entertainment company based in Dedham, Massachusetts. The company was founded in 1936 as the Northeast Theatre Corporation by Michael Redstone. . "American CinemaStores' new satellite mini-stores are the perfect vehicle for the theater chains to market current film presentations," said Steve Natale, president of ACS (Asynchronous Communications Server) See network access server. .

To heighten customer awareness at each participating location, promotional messages will be included on each theater's answer phone, and free ACS gift coupons will be distributed at each participating location. A special "800" line will enable theater patrons to order other merchandise not available at the satellite store.

To be able to bring home movie-related memorabilia helps to continue a patron's moviegoing experience and to encourage the prominent place of motion picture exhibition in today's world of entertainment," said Redstone.

In addition to the contract signed with National Amusements, American CinemaStores recently signed a similar agreement with Hoyts Cinema Corp. and is opening three satellite stores in New York this week. ACS is in negotiations for satellite store contracts in 1995 with one other major theater chain, and has plans for shopping malls throughout the Midwest.

American CinemaStores' new division of eight regional mall stores, the American Studio Stores, will be expanding to include several new areas. ACS is also considering installation of permanent stores in malls where temporary stores are successful.
