American Century New Opportunities Fund Passes $400 Million Mark; Fund Closed to New Investors.

Keeping its pledge to investors, American Century Investments American Century Investments is a privately held investment management firm. "American Century" is a term coined by Time
 New Opportunities Fund to new investors because the fund surpassed $400 million in assets. This marks the first time the Kansas City-based mutual fund company has closed a fund to new investors based on the asset level of the fund.

"When we launched the fund, American Century knew it was important to keep the fund to a reasonable size to allow the management team to remain nimble and maintain the emphasis on the small- and mid-cap market," said Spence Fitzgibbons, American Century's director of product management.

The growth of New Opportunities has come from both new investments and through performance. For the first three quarters of this year through Sept. 30, the fund has gained nearly 40 percent. For the one-year period ended Sept. 30, 1999, the fund posted an average annual total return of 79.31 percent. Since the Dec. 26, 1996, inception through Sept. 30, 1999, the fund has returned 20.25 percent(a).

American Century accepted new applications with investments for New Opportunities from qualified investors that were received by Nov. 22, 1999. Qualified investors were notified by mail of the fund's closing. Subsequent investments from current investors for New Opportunities accounts that already are open will continue to be accepted.
