American Century Investments President & CEO Jonathan Thomas to Participate in LIVESTRONG[R] Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, Ireland.

Advocates Address Global Cancer Burden Aug. 24-26, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jonathan S. Thomas, president and chief executive officer of American Century Investments, will participate in a panel on corporate social responsibility at the LIVESTRONG([R]) Global Cancer Summit, Aug. 24-26, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland. Moderated by Doug Ulman, president and CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), the panel also will feature NIKE CEO Mark Parker.

The Dublin LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit is a first-of-its kind gathering of world leaders, non-governmental organizations, prominent corporate executives and cancer survivor advocates in support of efforts to address the global cancer burden. The three-day event provides a platform for participants to share their unique perspectives on the fight against cancer and necessary steps for maintaining a sustained world-wide movement.

The LAF expects about 300 advocates -- representing more than 65 countries -- to participate in the summit, which is being held at the Royal Dublin Society. Among the more prominent attendees are cyclist Lance Armstrong, CNN Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Former Prime Minister of Jordan Faisal A. Al-Fayez.

"Cancer is a major public health problem that affects every country in every region of the world, regardless of economic and social situation," said Lance Armstrong. "Through collective action, we will make a renewed commitment to reducing the burden of cancer around the world and break down the stigma and silence too often associated with the disease."

The corporate social responsibility panel featuring Jonathan Thomas and NIKE's Mark Parker convenes at 4 p.m. (IST) Monday, Aug. 24. The panelists will discuss the role of the private sector in changing the course of the cancer epidemic. Thomas was invited to appear because more than 40 percent of American Century Investments' profits fund biomedical research that could lead to cures for gene-based diseases such as cancer. Furthermore, since 2006 the Kansas City-based asset management firm has partnered with the Lance Armstrong Foundation on multiple fundraising, cancer awareness and survivorship initiatives.

"I'm honored to participate in the premiere LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit, an event that will bring together scores of like-minded voices committed to making cancer a global priority," said Thomas. "All of us at American Century Investments are proud to be foot soldiers in the war against an enemy that knows no borders and claims eight million lives each year."

American Century Investments founder Jim Stowers, Jr. and his wife Virginia are both cancer survivors who have committed a significant portion of their personal wealth to establish the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. The Institute conducts basic research on fundamental processes of cellular life in order to identify more effective means of preventing, treating and curing disease.

The Stowers family's and Lance Armstrong's valiant fight against cancer inspired American Century Investments to create the LIVESTRONG([R]) Portfolios, a series of tobacco-free, asset allocation funds that provide investors with a convenient way to control their retirement savings. The management company of American Century Investments has made a multi-year, multi-million dollar commitment to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
