American Century Growth Manager Promoted; C. Kim Goodwin Named Co-Chief Investment Officer for American Century's Domestic Growth Equity Discipline.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2000

Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager C. Kim Goodwin has been named co-chief investment officer for American Century's domestic growth equity discipline. Her new position -- one of the top posts in the firm's investment management area -- is comparable to existing CIO positions American Century has for its fixed-income, value/quantitative equity and international disciplines.

Assets under management in the domestic growth area top $70 billion, approximately 60 percent of American Century's total assets. Goodwin, 41, will report to Robert C. Puff, Jr., president and chief investment officer of American Century Investment Management, the firm's investment advisor subsidiary.

An investment professional with 13 years of portfolio management experience, Goodwin shares the domestic growth equity CIO position with James Stowers III. She continues to serve on the investment team for American Century Growth, an $11 billion fund she's co-managed since 1997. Other members of the Growth team include managers Greg Woodhams and Prescott LeGard, and investment analyst Justin Brown.

In addition to new management and leadership responsibilities, Goodwin joins the Investment Oversight Committee, a group of senior executives who monitor the performance of the company's equity and fixed-income disciplines.

Prior to joining American Century, Goodwin was a senior vice president with Putnam Investments, where she served as co-manager of the Putnam Vista Fund and co-lead manager of the Putnam U.S. Growth Fund. Previously, she served in various portfolio management and investment research positions with Prudential and Mellon Bank.

Goodwin -- a panelist on Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser -- holds a bachelor's degree in politics from Princeton, where she graduated cum laude. She also holds a master's degree in public affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and a master's in business administration from the Graduate School of Business, both at the University of Texas at Austin.
