American Campus Begins Construction on First Student Housing Project since Katrina.

UNO was founded in 1958 as the New Orleans branch of Louisiana State University, originally as "Louisiana State University in New Orleans" or "LSUNO", but became more independent and changed the name to "University of New Orleans" in 1974.

The $38.5 million third-party, student housing development for UNO was unanimously approved last month by the Louisiana Joint Legislative Budget Committee which authorized the sale of bonds to finance the development. Occupancy for the 742-bed community is anticipated for the Fall 2007 semester.
