The company reported that the initial order amounted to approximately $1 million.

Commenting on the order, Robert A. Cutting, chief executive officer, said: ``Commercialization of the small scale system represents an important benchmark in American Business Computer's paint dispensing business, because it addresses the needs of the largest segment of the worldwide retail paint market. Our growth strategy is sharply focused on developing and bringing to market computerized dispensing products which can gain substantial market share in the paint, beverage and other major industries.''

Randolph D. Letsch, vice president-sales, indicated that the new system had been in development for about a year under a joint design program between American Business Computers and Sherwin-Williams and has now successfully passed laboratory and field testing. ``Since the unit was designed expressly for paint retailers and chains, we feel that the technological advantages of this user-friendly system should lead to a higher customer satisfaction at the retail level,'' he said.

Mr. Letsch noted that the new unit can be electronically interfaced with bar code scanners A device specialized for reading bar codes and converting them into either the ASCII or EBCDIC digital character code. The user-friendly, computer controlled system tints pints, quarts, gallons and five-gallon cans and has the same ``no purge'' feature as the larger system which is used in Sherwin-Williams' own retail stores.
