American Automobile Association selects Informix as database of choice; INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server to run universal AAAccess system.
The Universal AAAccess system links participating AAA clubs to the national office. AAA began deploying the Universal AAAccess system to club sites in April and the project will continue into 1995. Once connected, AAA clubs can choose from a menu of information options such as AAA's Travel Match application.
Travel Match enables travel counselors to quickly verify membership information; conduct an accommodations search by rating, amenities, or location; book air, hotel, and car rental reservations on-line; and look up information such as area points of interest, major attractions, and calendar listings.
"AAA selected the INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server to run Universal AAAccess to deliver faster, better service to clubs, and ultimately to AAA members, using leading-edge technology," said Luis Fresquez, AAA vice president and chief information officer.
"OnLine Dynamic Server's proven performance and scalability will enable the Universal AAAccess system to grow and support increasing numbers of users," said Frank Bergandi, vice president, North American at Informix. "Informix is pleased to continue providing solutions to AAA, a valued customer."
In addition to the Universal AAAccess system, AAA has moved two key applications from its mainframe to an Informix and Hewlett-Packard environment.
The first is a membership processing service which provides phone counselors direct access to current on-line information, eliminating paper forms and data re-entry and resulting in a more streamlined and competitive operation. The second is a distributed information system for emergency road service which provides faster emergency service to members by cutting the time required to dispatch tow trucks.
AAA is a not-for-profit tax-paying federation of 125 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices in the United States and Canada providing 36 million members with travel, financial, insurance and auto-related services.
