American Airlines To Expand Partnership in New Online Travel Agency; American Will Become One of Web Site's Equity Owners.

The new online travel agency said that it will operate as an independent company with separate management, and its equity owners and charter associates will continue operating their respective web sites and participate in other online and traditional distribution channels.

Gunn added, "American not only wants its schedules and fares available to users of this web site, but to users of every other distribution channel for air transportation, including traditional travel agents, our own web site, and other online travel agencies. We will continue to promote our product in all channels."

American Airlines is the largest U.S. domestic airline and the world's second largest carrier. Along with its regional airline affiliate, American Eagle, it provides service to nearly 50 countries and over 240 cities worldwide. Last year American flew almost 85 million passengers. American operates a modern jet fleet of approximately 700 aircraft. The airline has more than 100,000 employees.

American Eagle, American's regional airline affiliate, last year flew more than 14 million passengers with a fleet of 271 regional aircraft. On an average day American operates more than 2,400 flights. American Eagle operates more than 1,700 daily departures.
