What do images of Miami Beach, a New York City skyline and a kiss from Elizabeth Hurley have in common? They're each about to adorn a limited edition "AOL 8.0 Designer Disk." Over the last decade, AOL disks have become as much a part of the pop-culture landscape as the phrase "You've Got Mail."(R) This special collection, to be formally unveiled on October 15th at a special AOL member celebration at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, marks the launch of AOL 8.0 and at the same time, introduces a whole new art form.

Eight different versions of the AOL 8.0 disk have been designed celebrities from the worlds of fashion, theater, sports, music, and entertainment and reproduced in a limited edition of 1,000 each. Tom Cruise, Enrique Iglesias, Donna Karan, Magic Johnson, Matthew Broderick, Kate Spade, Elizabeth Hurley and a combined disk by Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore in anticipation of their upcoming film "The Hours", have all signed on to bring their own personal style directly to your mailbox.

Beginning October 15th, the original, signed artwork from each of these superstar designers will be auctioned on eBay to benefit their chosen charity. This special limited edition collection will also be featured online at AOL Keyword: Designer Disk so fans can check out their favorite celebrities' artwork and learn more about the causes they care about. In addition, 1,000 of each collectible AOL 8.0 Designer Disk will be distributed free at Bloomingdale's in New York City to mark the launch of AOL 8.0. In January 2003, a second limited edition run of these Designer Disks will be mailed to homes across the country as part of AOL's ongoing direct mail program.

To recognize the diversity of the AOL service and the cult status of these collectibles, celebrities who best represent their respective fields were selected to create AOL disk designs.

-- Tom Cruise - As one of the world's biggest superstars, Tom Cruise often plays the hero not only on screen, but in real life as well. It should be no surprise that this superman chose the charity "H.E.L.P." to benefit from the sale of his disk.

The Hollywood Education & Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.) is a community based literacy and mentoring project, offering free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring for students, as well as instruction, training and internships for volunteer tutors and those opening community centers in other areas. To date, H.E.L.P. has opened more than 25 projects in the U.S. and abroad, assisting thousands in literacy and life skills.

-- Elizabeth Hurley - Each of Elizabeth Hurley's three lives - as actor, producer, and model for Estee Lauder cosmetics and perfumes - have made her one of the most recognized figures in the world of film and fashion. It's clear this father-to-be is artistically talented as well. Matthew Broderick's design is benefiting Project A.L.S.

Project A.L.S. was founded by Jenifer Estess, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1997, along with her family and friends. Project A.L.S. raises funds for A.L.S. research in order to bring the best basic science to people living with A.L.S. (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), in the hopes of finding effective treatments and a cure.
