(R) Call Alert, a new online call waiting service that lets members know who is calling while they are online and also allows members to handle calls using several message response options. This premium service is one of the many offerings that AOL is introducing with AOL(R) 8.0, the newest version of its flagship service.
AOL Call Alert was designed based on extensive member feedback from those customers who have answering machines and use dial-up connections over their households' single phone lines. When receiving a call while online, a member will receive a real-time alert on the computer screen that includes the caller's name, phone number, city and state (where Caller ID is available). Members choose how they want to handle their calls using several pre-recorded responses, and can listen to voice mail messages that are left for them -- all without ending their online sessions.
