Entertainment Editors/Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 2003

Collaboration Will Enable Enhanced Music Discovery and

Personalization for AOL Music Programming Products and Services

Including the New MusicNet on AOL

In a an agreement announced today, AOL Music has turned to Savage Beast Technologies Inc., the Oakland-based software company, for its unique music search and recommendation technology. With Savage Beast's software, AOL Music will put in the hands of its members and Web music fans a powerful new tool for music discovery; one based on the music itself, driven entirely by the unique tastes of each individual.

Savage Beast's software, powered by the Music Genome Project(TM), will be the cornerstone of a wide array of navigation and personalization features across AOL's network of leading music properties. Among the many features AOL members will be able to use are Savage Beast's recommendation engine to search catalogs for songs musically similar to their current favorites, build custom playlists based on particular songs or use Savage Beast's software to design a personalized search engine based on a custom set of musical criteria.

Kevin Conroy, Senior Vice President and General Manager, AOL Entertainment stated: "By integrating Savage Beast's technology, AOL will begin to deliver on the long awaited promise of personalized music on the Internet. By placing control in the hands of the consumer, Savage Beast has created something truly unique. This remarkable software will enhance the programming strengths of AOL to expand our current services, help attract and retain AOL Broadband consumers, and further our ability to provide unique value to artists and label partners."

The Music Genome Project(TM), which enables Savage Beast's applications, is a vast and expanding proprietary database that represents over three years of music analysis by Savage Beast's team of trained musicologists. The database is the most detailed study of music of its kind, capturing close to four hundred musical attributes per song, and spanning hundreds of thousands of popular recordings. The software brings the power of this detailed taxonomy to the fingertips of consumers, making the many navigation features responsive to the unique tastes of individual consumers, in a way that has not been possible thus far.

"This database was painstakingly created over many years by musicians, about music, for music lovers," says Tim Westergren, co-founder, and President. "We have seen a surge in usage and dramatic increases in conversion rates on our partners' sites, but perhaps most exciting is the promise this technology holds for changing the way people discover and purchase music. We are very excited to partner with AOL, where the opportunities for innovation and value-generating applications are extraordinary. Together we can bring this proven technology to the largest on-line music audience."

Savage Beast's technology also elevates the ability of artists and record labels to present their music to the best, most targeted audiences on an unprecedented scale. Bill Wilson, Vice President and General Manager, AOL Music, said: "Our mission is straight forward, to make it easy and fun for someone looking for music to find content they will want to stream, download or purchase. The partnership between AOL Music and Savage Beast is a breakthrough, not only for consumers, but for all artists and labels, no matter how big or how small looking to reach new fans."

The first of many applications of Savage Beast's technologies will surface inside the MusicNet on AOL service, with integration scheduled for Spring 2003. Savage Beast will power recommendations and navigation into and out of the MusicNet on AOL catalogue, along with providing advanced playlist-creation and personalization.
