America Online, Inc., the company that is taking mobile instant messaging Mobile Instant Messaging abbreviated as MIM is a presence enabled messaging service that aims to transpose the Internet desktop messaging such as ICQ or MSN experience to the usage scenario of being connected via a mobile/cellular device.  to the mainstream, today announced a new suite of mobile offerings designed to give AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services. (R) members and Internet users easier access to AOL's popular content and services from their mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs.

Building on the popularity of the mobile AOL(R) Mail and AOL(R) Instant Messenger AOL's instant messaging service. See AIM and instant messaging. (TM) (AIM(R)) services, AOL has developed a new Instant Pictures feature for both AOL members and users of the AIM service. Also launching today are new MapQuest(R) mobile services including MapQuest(R) Traffic(TM) and MapQuest(R) Find Me(TM). Lastly, now being made available to carriers are mobile versions of America Online's popular You've Got Pictures(R), Radio@AOL and the AOL(R) CityGuide and Moviefone(R) services.

Launches Instant Pictures Feature for the Mobile AOL Instant Messenger See AIM.  (AIM) Service

Building on the popularity of camera phones and nationwide adoption of its mobile AIM service, AOL has developed a new Instant Pictures feature for both AOL members and AIM(R) users. The first version of the Instant Pictures feature lets users send pictures from their desktop AIM client to friends' and family members' cellular numbers on any mobile device. The new feature lets those who receive an Instant Picture respond by sharing their own photos as well.

AOL also announced that it is working with carrier partners and third-party developers to deliver next-generation mobile AIM clients that incorporate the Instant Pictures feature. These next-generation mobile AIM clients will enable users to both initiate, and reply to, Instant Picture messages by simply inserting a picture into the AIM conversation. Recipients see a thumbnail image of the picture on their mobile AIM screen that they can click to expand. They can reply with their own Instant Picture and initiate fun Instant Picture sharing experiences with everyone on their Buddy List A list of colleagues, workgroup members, friends, etc., that you might wish to communicate with via instant messaging. AOL's new Instant Pictures feature is supported by AOL's new Multimedia Messaging System Software that provides an electronic mail delivery system. It is made up of the following functional components, which may be packaged together or independently.

Mail User Agent
 (MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) An enhanced transmission service that enables graphics, video clips and sound files to be transmitted via cellphones. New Mobile Services from MapQuest

Building on the success of the MapQuest(R) Mobile(TM) application and its Send to Phone feature, AOL's MapQuest has developed two new mobile services that are available to consumers today through new carrier relationships.

--MapQuest's new MapQuest Find Me service uses GPS-location-enabled phones to help consumers pinpoint their locations on their phones, share their location with others via text messaging Sending short messages to a smartphone, pager, PDA or other handheld device. Text messaging implies sending short messages generally no more than a couple of hundred characters in length. , find nearby locations, and get maps and directions.

--MapQuest's new MapQuest Traffic service gives users live traffic data for 90 metropolitan areas in the U.S. With MapQuest Traffic, drivers can easily access up-to-date traffic information through their mobile phones so that they can plan alternate routes based on real-time information.

In addition, as announced in January this year, MapQuest Mobile lets subscribers conveniently access maps and directions from their cell phones. The "Send to Phone" feature lets users send maps and directions from the MapQuest.com Web site to their mobile phone. The MapQuest mobile application is available through major U.S. wireless carriers.

AOL's New Mobile Portal and Premium Mobile Services - Now Available to Carriers

Finally, AOL has launched a new and improved version of its mobile portal, a one-stop-shop that gives mobile users easy access to the AOL Mail and AIM services, as well as AOL's news, sports and weather. Additional services will be made available to carriers to customize the mobile portal offering, including AOL's newly developed premium mobile services.

These new premium services include mobile versions of AOL's popular You've Got Pictures, Radio@AOL, CityGuide and Moviefone services. These mobile applications are being made available to carrier partners and can be delivered to consumers on a monthly subscription basis via WAP (1) (Wireless Access Point) See access point.

--Along with its new Instant Picture feature for the mobile AIM service, AOL is bringing its signature You've Got Pictures service to mobile handsets. The new mobile You've Got Pictures application will let AOL members access and browse their stored picture albums anytime from anywhere. In addition, it will let members download, share and print their pictures, turning their mobile phones into personal media centers.

--A mobile version of AOL's top rated Radio@AOL service will allow users with media-enabled phones to access the online radio service's 200+ stations of music, news, sports and talk. Mobile users will also be able to access preset preset Cardiac pacing A parameter of a pacemaker that is programmed permanently when manufactured  stations and view album art as well as artist and song information directly from their mobile devices. --The new mobile service featuring AOL CityGuide, the leading online local entertainment guide, will give on-the-go users the ability to search and browse information on more than 317 markets, including 13 million dining and entertainment venues and more than 1 million events. And, for the first time, AOL CityGuide users will be able to use their mobile phones to cast their votes in the annual City's Best(TM) survey, recognizing excellence in local dining, nightlife and entertainment.
