Credit Union deploys second speech application to further enhance

member service channels

SpeechWorks International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPWX), the global leader in speech technologies and services, today announced it has deployed a speech-enabled instant loan application for America First Credit Union (AFCU), the largest credit union in Utah with over $2.3 billion in assets, serving 316,403 members. The application represents an industry first, allowing members to instantly secure loan approvals and other loan information using simple voice commands.

Bringing together "best of class" hardware and software providers, SpeechWorks and AFCU deployed the instant loan application using a loan decisioning solution called "Loan Navigator" from CGI Group Inc. (NYSE: CIB), on a platform from Intervoice (Nasdaq: INTV), the world leader in converged voice and data solutions.

Self-Service Loan Information

AFCU members have been able to receive an immediate response to loan applications through the Internet for over two years. They can now get the same service through its new speech-enabled loan application. The instant loan application can be used for the following products:

-- Checking Card

-- Home Equity Loans

-- Personal Loans

-- Recreational Vehicle

-- Visa(R) Credit Cards

In a step-by-step process, the application collects the information necessary to complete the loan. Initially, the member will have access to a payment calculator, where he or she can adjust the amount, term, and payment structure to achieve the desired result. After verification, the loan application is partially populated with information obtained from the member's account. The system collects the remaining information, including employment status, income, and residence information.

Upon receiving a decision, the member is given the choice to speak with a loan officer to discuss loan fulfillment or receive a call back within 24 hours. In addition, if the member is unable to finish the application and transferred to a representative, the partial application is immediately available for review. In either event, the amount of time needed to process a loan application is significantly reduced.

In July 2002, AFCU deployed Utah's first speech-enabled financial application, which allows AFCU members to access account information and conduct transactions. Forty-three percent of AFCU members who use self-service banking have selected the speech application over touch-tone.

America First Credit Union introduced its first speech application, SpeechAccess(TM), through a series of print, radio, television, transit and in-cinema advertisements featuring former NBA all star and company spokesperson, Jeff Hornacek. The credit union will launch a new series of advertisements to promote its instant loan application beginning in mid-October.
