America's favorite kids -- the Cabbage Patch Kids -- come to life on home video.

CLEVELAND, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1996--This year's blockbuster hits are not only at the movie theaters, they are coming to a living room near you.

For the first time ever, America's favorite kids -- the Cabbage Patch Kids Cabbage Patch Kids are a brand of doll created by Xavier Roberts in 1978. The original dolls were all cloth and were available at local craft shows, and later at Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia.  -- come to life with the release of two new home videos, "The Clubhouse" and "The New Kid."

With more than 80 million Cabbage Patch Kids "adopted" since their introduction in 1983, the beloved 'Kids are one of the most popular toys of all time. Following on the heels of their international acclaim as the official mascots of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team, the newest 'Kids are becoming more and more popular and now star in their very own videos.

"The Clubhouse" and "The New Kid" videos feature wonderfully animated stories with stop-motion effects, original sing-along songs and distinctive choreography. Both videos, each 30 minutes in length, will be available for purchase at retail outlets nationwide on Aug. 20 and have a suggested retail price of $12.98 each.

"`The Clubhouse' and `The New Kid' are sure to be family favorites," said Della Tolhurst, president and COO of Original Appalachian Artworks, creators of the Cabbage Patch Kids. "Children across the country can watch the 'Kids come to life on the television screen with their very own Cabbage Patch Cabbage patch may refer to:
  • The Cabbage Patch Kids dolls
  • The Cabbage patch dance
  • A cabbage patch may also be a plot of land on which cabbages are grown, see Allotment (gardening)
Kid at their side. And parents will love the videos because each one offers valuable lessons about growing up."

"The Clubhouse" video teaches children about the importance of cooperation as the 'Kids compete in a clubhouse building contest. By the end of the video, the boys and girls boys and girls

realize that working together is more important than winning or losing. Packed with entertaining musical numbers, families can sing along with their favorite 'Kids and witness a marvelous assortment of dance routines.

At one time or another, everyone has experienced being the new kid -- that's why the "The New Kid" video will captivate a large audience. "The New Kid" tells the story of Norma Jean The term Norma Jean can refer to several people:
  • Norma Jeane Mortensen, the given name of actress Marilyn Monroe.
  • Norma Jean, a Christian metalcore band.
  • Norma Jean, a Country music singer, nicknamed, "Pretty Miss Norma Jean".
on her first day at a new school. Through various after-school talent show performances, Norma Jean and the other 'Kids learn about their fears of the unknown.

They realize that everyone's a little different -- and that's OK. The video will help children gain self-confidence and feel more comfortable the next time they confront a new situation or environment.
