America's First Passion Poll Identifies the Passion Fakers and Seriously Passionate Movers and Shakers.

--From the Fashion Police to the Passion Police ... "Malibu Rum Passion Pulse of America" Poll Reveals the Truth about Who Walks the Passion Red Carpet and Who Belongs in the Passion Hall of Shame

America has spoken! They may be burning up the big screen, but some of our hottest celebrity icons lack passion off-screen. However, when it comes to America's cities, passion plays a huge part in the cities that rock the passion poll and the cities that roll off the passion charts. Keeping its finger on the pulse of all things passionate, Malibu Rum(R) today announced findings from its "Malibu Rum Passion Pulse of America" poll conducted by Harris Interactive(R). Coinciding with the arrival of the new Malibu Passion Fruit flavored rum, the Malibu Passion Pulse poll revealed who could learn a thing or two about passion and what seriously easygoing, exciting inner passion U.S. adults aged 21 and over would pursue if given a chance (the surprising answer involves motor homes!).

"Malibu Passion Pulse Points":

--Nearly half of respondents (44%) believe Hollywood's "rush-to-the-alter" couple - Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, also known as TomKat - are not genuine with their passion for one another.

--If a big paycheck wasn't in the mix, Americans would take the seriously easygoing route and hit the nation's highways in RVs, as "traveling the country in a motor home" was among the top three choices by respondents when asked about their "secret inner passion."

--The Big Apple - New York City - was the choice of nearly half of respondents (48%) when asked what residents "have the most passion for their city."

Malibu Passion Pulse: Celebrity Couples

Although most readers of the hottest gossip magazines may not see long-term romance in the cards for Cruise and Holmes given their lack of passion - the pair doesn't stand alone. The next two Hollywood powerhouse couples receiving dubious passion points from respondents include the closely scrutinized Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (37%) and newly-weds Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, reeling in 32 percent of the vote.

Malibu Passion Pulse: Passion over Paychecks

Celebrities aren't the only ones in need of a passion makeover. Scores of everyday people have yet to tap into their innermost needs and desires. The poll suggests that Americans want to take on a seriously easygoing attitude and free themselves from the traditional nine-to-five, break from everyday stresses and enjoy life to the fullest. If having a big paycheck wasn't in the mix, in addition to hitting the roads in a motor home, consumers would "start (a) business," the choice of more than a third polled (36%), followed by "move to the Caribbean" coming in with a quarter (25%) of the vote.(1)

Malibu Passion Pulse: Top Cities

Consumers have a hot love affair with New York City, as nearly half (48%) of respondents picked New York City as the city whose residents have the most passion for their city (from a given list of 10). Residents of rival baseball mecca Boston (9%) were a distant second followed by tropical paradise Honolulu sliding in at third (8%).

Malibu Passion Pulse: Passion Prevails

"Passion Fruit" is most commonly seen as the "exotic flavor best (representing) passion in the summer" with 22 percent of the vote. Other colorful fruits fancied by U.S. adults over the age of 21 were mango (20%), pineapple (12%) and coconut (9%). These are among the flavors that can be found in the Malibu Rum product line - including the newest addition to the family, Malibu Passion Fruit. Consumers can now indulge in a refreshing Malibu Passion Tea cocktail infused with their favorite summer fruit to help cool things down as the summer heats up.

Harris Interactive(R) fielded the online survey on behalf of Allied Domecq between July 6 and 8, 2005 among a nationwide sample of 2,150 U.S. adults aged 21+. The data were weighted to be representative of the total U.S. adult population on the basis of region, age within gender, education, household income, race/ethnicity and propensity to be online. Though this online sample is not a probability sample, in theory, with probability samples of this size, Harris Interactive estimates with 95 percent certainty that the overall results have a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points of what they would be if the entire population of U.S. adults aged 21 and over had been polled with complete accuracy.
