The 2009 Policy and Issues Forum, hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC NACHC National Association of Community Health Centers (Washington DC, USA) ), is scheduled to kick off this week. The 34rd annual national conference is the largest Washington gathering of federally supported Community Health Centers, which serve more than 18 million patients nationwide. The conference brings together thousands of health center leaders, opinion-makers, policy experts, clinicians and consumers to dialogue on access to affordable health care.

The conference comes as demand for health center services is rising from people who have lost jobs and their employer-sponsored health insurance during the economic downturn. Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, health centers are expanding primary care services to reach people in need and creating jobs in economically deprived communities.
