The goal of Silent Partner services is to provide VARs and SIs with critical services they may require as a supplement to their in-house resources, to fill a specific gap in their resources on a short-term basis, and overall to give them an experienced and competent full-featured out-source alternative.

Providing such a broad range of services is not new to AmeriQuest. A little known fact, according to Mr. Kramer, is that the original Pennsylvania-based company now known as AmeriQuest started in 1979 as a provider of computer integration expertise. Product distribution and fulfillment operations actually began later as an offshoot.

A major reason for highlighting the services side of the company now, AmeriQuest executives said, is that the practical needs of VARs and SIs have expanded a great deal over the years.

Technology continues to change rapidly and solutions are becoming ever more complex, straining the in-house resources of many VARs and SIs at the same time that competition for experienced people is greater than ever before.

"The 'build or buy' dilemma has always been there for solutions resellers," said Mr. Kramer. "I know it well, having been a VAR myself prior to joining this organization years ago. However, I think the magnitude of the problem has accelerated in recent years. Customer demands are greater, pressure to perform has become more intense, while experienced help is scarce and costly. Every VAR or SI eventually finds themselves stretching their internal resources beyond what they feel is comfortable."
