Ameobi signs new contract at Newcastle

The former England Under-21 international spent the latter part of last season on loan at Stoke, but he rejected a permanent move to the Midlands side prompting enquiries from Ipswich and Norwich.

"I'm delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to Newcastle United," Ameobi told the club's website.

Kinnear will now hope for similar responses from key midfielder Nicky Butt Nicholas "Nicky" Butt (born 21 January 1975 in Gorton, Manchester) is an English footballer who currently plays for Newcastle United. Butt is primarily a defensive midfielder, and a former England international.  and goalkeeper Steve Harper, who also received offers in December, although he will have to wait until the end of the season for a decision from Michael Owen.
