Amendments to be made under light of July 31 decision: Attorney General.

ISLAMABAD, September 07, 2009 (Frontier Star): Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa has said that November 3 steps are not being incorporated in 18th Amendment and amendments would be made only under the light of decision of the Supreme Court announced on July 31. Talking to a private TV channel, the Attorney General said that the government neither has the intention to endorse November 3 steps nor to table the draft of any such amendment, as the decision of apex court was clear. He said that if Parliament is to endorse November 3 steps then the decision announced by SC on July 31 would be revoked automatically, however, the government would never protect steps taken on November 3 by former President Pervez Musharraf. Meanwhile, addressing a ceremony held in connection with new judicial year, the Attorney General said that the decision announced on July 31 has stopped any possibility of adventurism. He said that the judiciary should not restrict itself on recent success but to prepare to face new challenges, adding nearly 19000 cases are pending and the judiciary has to address injustices of people. The Attorney General expressed concern over law and order situation in the country, saying the government was taking steps to control the menace of terrorism. He said that the responsibility of the court is to take decisions not to topple governments.
