Amended VDSL2 Standard Validates Aktino's Ethernet over Copper Technology Strategy.

IRVINE, Calif. -- The International Telecommunication Union's recent approval of an amended standard for VDSL See DSL.

VDSL - Very high bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line
2 validates, and brings to the forefront, the technology approach that Aktino has taken since it was founded, the company said today.

Meeting in Geneva Geneva, canton and city, Switzerland
Geneva (jənē`və), Fr. Genève, canton (1990 pop. 373,019), 109 sq mi (282 sq km), SW Switzerland, surrounding the southwest tip of the Lake of Geneva.
, the ITU's standards group 15 (ITU-SG15) consented to Amendment 1 to the VDSL2 (ITU-G.993.2) standard last week. This amendment enhances the functionality of VDSL2 and gives it added flexibility to service both business and residential applications on both short and long loops. The additional functionality is achieved through newly-defined flexible band plans that allow the modem to be configured for either asymmetric or symmetric rate services.

"With this new functionality, VDSL2 is now positioned as the highest-performance, most flexible universal DSL See DSL.  technology," said Michail Tsatsanis, chief scientist and co-founder of Aktino, the industry leader in delivery of business-class broadband over the existing copper wiring infrastructure. "We are grateful for the significant support we received from all the major global ILECs and our partners to create this enhancement for the VDSL2 standard."

Tsatsanis added that VDSL2 is now positioned as the optimal means for converging business and residential access network equipment into unified platforms.

"In addition to supporting new residential services such as IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet. , VDSL2 can now also support next-generation symmetric business access services such as Ethernet over copper via one or multiple bonded copper pairs."

Since its founding in 2003, Aktino has advocated the merits of DMT See DSL.  (Discrete Multi-Tone Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) describes a version of multicarrier DSL modulation in which incoming data is collected and then distributed over a large number of small individual carriers, each of which uses a form of QAM modulation. ) technology - the basis for VDSL2 - as the best approach for delivering business access services. Aktino pioneered the adaptation of the technology for symmetric services and, through its active leadership and involvement in the standards process, has helped drive its establishment as an open industry standard.

Aktino was the first to deliver products for the business Ethernet market that were based on DMT technology and the first to deliver further performance enhancements through its unique MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) Pronounced "my-mo," it is the use of multiple transmitters and receivers (multiple antennas) on wireless devices for improved performance.  (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) on DMT approach. Thanks to MIMO on DMT, Aktino is able to minimize crosstalk (1) Electromagnetic interference that comes from an adjacent wire. "Alien" crosstalk is interference that comes from a wire in an adjacent cable, for example, when two or more twisted wire pair cables are bundled together.  among copper pairs. This enables longer reach and greater bandwidth, delivering a much larger service footprint, throughout the entire Carrier Serving Area.

Aktino's product family consists of the AK3000, which provides long-reach DS3 (45 Mbps) services; the AK4000, which enables true 10 to 50 Mbps business-class Ethernet services; and the AK5000, a scalable, shelf-based platform for larger installations.

About Aktino

Aktino designs and delivers innovative carrier-class long reach broadband over copper solutions that enable service providers to offer a broad footprint of revenue-generating business-class broadband services over existing copper loops. Aktino is a pioneer in the use of industry standard DMT (Discrete Multi Tone) with MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) in the wireline domain.
