Amended VDSL2 Standard Validates Aktino's Ethernet over Copper Technology Strategy.

IRVINE, Calif. -- The International Telecommunication Union's recent approval of an amended standard for VDSL2 validates, and brings to the forefront, the technology approach that Aktino has taken since it was founded, the company said today.

Meeting in Geneva, the ITU's standards group 15 (ITU-SG15) consented to Amendment 1 to the VDSL2 (ITU-G.993.2) standard last week. This amendment enhances the functionality of VDSL2 and gives it added flexibility to service both business and residential applications on both short and long loops. The additional functionality is achieved through newly-defined flexible band plans that allow the modem to be configured for either asymmetric or symmetric rate services.

"In addition to supporting new residential services such as IPTV, VDSL2 can now also support next-generation symmetric business access services such as Ethernet over copper via one or multiple bonded copper pairs."
