powered her way into the last 16 - then set her sights on a second Wimbledon singles crown.

The 2006 champion kept her title hopes alive with a hard-fought 7-5 6-3 victory over Italian Flavia Penetta, seeded two places higher than Mauresmo at 15.

The Frenchwoman is hoping her experience can carry her further, although she faces a major test against top seed Dinara Safina tomorrow.

She said: "I hope I can keep this going. Every match is going to be difficult, and it gets tougher and tougher as the tournament goes on.

I'm expecting another tough one on Monday." Mauresmo has fallen down the rankings since 2006, when she won Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

But despite hitting 30 next Sunday, she believes she can achieve more success.

She said: "I'm enjoying myself far more than I've done in the last couple of years. I've had some good times and hopefully will have some more." Fighting Meanwhile, French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova crashed out, on her 24th birthday, to German teenager Sabine Lisicki.

Fifth seed Kuznetsova lost 6-2 7-5 to the 19-year-old, who will now face ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki.

Lisicki, who needed five match points before sealing the biggest win of her career, said: "I just kept fighting.

"It's a huge win for me as, before Wimbledon, I hadn't won a match on grass. I can't believe I'm in the fourth round." After taking the opening set, Lisicki was 5-3 ahead in the second but Kuznetsova battled back to level at 5-5.

Lisicki, who has recorded the second fastest ladies' serve so far (122mph), held her serve and the Russian failed to close out from 40-0 up to let her opponent in to claim victory..
