AMELIE MAURESMO powered her way in to the last 16 - then targeted a second Wimbledon singles crown.

The 2006 champion kept her hopes alive with a hard-fought 7-5 6-3 victory over Italian Flavia Penetta, seeded two places higher than Mauresmo at 15.

The Frenchwoman is hoping her experience can carry her further, although she faces a major test against top seed Dinara Safina Dinara Safina (Russian: Дина́ра Муби́новна (Миха́йловна) Са́фина), born  tomorrow.

She said: "I hope I can keep this going.

Every match will be difficult, and it gets tougher and tougher as the tournament goes on. I'm expecting another tough one on Monday." Mauresmo has fallen down the rankings since 2006, when she won Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Fighting But despite hitting 30 on Sunday, she believes she can achieve more success.

She said: "I'm enjoying myself far more than I've done in the last two years.

"I've had some good times and hope to have some more." Meanwhile, French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova Svetlana Aleksandrovna Kuznetsova (Cyrillic: Светлана Александровна  crashed out on her 24th birthday, to German teenager Sabine Lisicki.

Fifth seed Kuznetsova lost 6-2 7-5 to the 19-year-old, who will now face ninth seed Caroline Wozniacki Caroline Wozniacki (born July 11, 1990, Odense) is a Danish tennis player. As of October 15, 2007, she is 62nd in the WTA rankings.

Being born to Polish parents, she is trilingual, fluent in Polish as well as Danish and English.

Lisicki, who needed five match points before sealing the biggest win of her career, said: "I just kept fighting.

"It's a huge win as, before Wimbledon, I hadn't won a match on grass. I can't believe I'm in the fourth round." After taking the opening set, Lisicki was 5-3 ahead in the second but Kuznetsova battled back to level at 5-5.

Lisicki held her serve and the Russian failed to close out from 40-0 up to let her opponent in to claim victory..
