Amegy Bank of Texas Offers Banking Services to George R. Brown Convention Center Residents; ATMs Delivered Saturday; www.katrinahousing.org Launched.

HOUSTON -- Amegy Bank of Texas, the largest independent bank in Houston, is offering banking services to residents in the George R. Brown Convention Center at the request of Mayor Bill White and the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 8, Amegy will be on site to cash the following government relief checks up to $3,500: FEMA, Social Security, Red Cross, and Child Support with a photo ID and a FEMA registration number. Amegy has also announced that it will be opening accounts, issuing ATM cards and accepting deposits for all residents with proof of identification. Residents who open accounts will also be provided with instructions on how to have funds directly deposited into their accounts from the relief agencies. The temporary banking center is located in room 209 and 210 of the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Additionally, the Bank has brought in ATMs for cash withdrawals and is waiving all surcharge fees for the ATMs in the Convention Center and for any ATM withdrawal within its network for cards issued in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

"A vital component to the relief effort is providing the residents with access to their funds and an ability to make deposits," said Paul Murphy, CEO. "As the basic necessities such as food, water and clothing are provided, it is important to start thinking long term for many of these residents. We are one of many organizations proudly responding to the calls to action put forth by Mayor White, District Clerk Charles Bacarisse, County Judge Robert Eckels and so many others."

Amegy also worked to support the website www.katrinahousing.org, which was started by the family member of an employee of Zions Bancorporation. Volunteers at the Zions Management Services call center took hundreds of calls for the website which has connected survivors looking for housing with people offering temporary assistance. With the assistance of the call center volunteers the web site facilitated in the placement of more than 3,000 survivors.

Amegy and Zions announced their intent to merge on July 6, 2005.

As a reminder, citizens wishing to contribute to the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast's relief effort may do so at any of Amegy's more than 80 banking centers. Contributions to the fund will be allocated to agency programs which support storm victims temporarily living in the Houston area.
