Amec strengthens after Aussie oilfield deal.

IN the Northern Index, international engineering and oil services company Amec announced that it has secured a contract with INPEX INPEX Information Nouveautés Pharmaceutiques  Corporation for the Ichthys Field in Western Australia Western Australia, state (1991 pop. 1,409,965), 975,920 sq mi (2,527,633 sq km), Australia, comprising the entire western part of the continent. It is bounded on the N, W, and S by the Indian Ocean. Perth is the capital. .

The contract will cover the front end engineering design of the oil field's offshore production facilities together with the pipeline connecting the platform to the mainland.

Amec stated that securing this contract highlighted the strength of the company's position in providing services to the oil and gas majors.

Amec's share price moved higher by 8.5p to close at 622p.

Elsewhere in the market, local company Northgate provided the market with an update on its financial position.

The company confirmed that following its interim management statement of 25 February, the business has been in discussions with its bankers with regard to restructuring the group's financial covenants.

The aim of the restructuring process is to provide a platform to meet Northgate's requirements in the future.
