Multiple Server Feature Allowing Customers to Manage Their

Amdahl Corp. and Isogon Corp., top-tier provider of software and professional services for IT asset management, today announced that Isogon will support Amdahl's Multiple Server Feature(tm) (MSF) available on Amdahl Millennium(tm) System/390-compatible servers.

This "split-to-fit" breakthrough, pioneered by Amdahl in 1998, establishes multiple servers, each with its own CPUID and serial number, within a single system. MSF was designed specifically to offer large-systems customers strategies and solutions for managing their growing software costs.

With MSF, customers have the potential to pay for software based on the resources actually required by an application, rather than based on total system capacity. The Amdahl feature is the ideal solution for System/390 workload consolidation. Operating and maintenance costs can be dramatically reduced by replacing multiple, expensive-to-maintain older ECL mainframes or consolidating small CMOS servers with one compact, low-maintenance CMOS footprint that consumes much less power.

MSF is a standard, no-charge feature on the Millennium 2000 Series, which includes more than 100 models from 30 MIPS up to 2,000 MIPS of capacity, the highest throughput available on any System/390-compatible CMOS server.
