Amdahl Corporation (company) Amdahl Corporation - A US computer manufacturer. Amdahl is a major supplier of large mainframes, UNIX and Open Systems software and servers, data storage subsystems, data communications products, applications development software, and a variety of educational and  today announced that they are endorsing BMC (BMC Software, Inc., Houston, TX, www.bmc.com) A leading supplier of software that supports and improves the availability, performance, and recovery of applications in complex computing environments.  Software's ChangeDataMove product for use with Microsoft's(R) SQL Server An earlier relational DBMS from Sybase and from Microsoft. Sybase introduced SQL Server in 1988 for various Unix versions. In that same year, with help from IBM, Sybase created an OS/2 version that Microsoft licensed and branded as Microsoft SQL Server.  warehousing. Amdahl will be a reference and a consulting resource for BMC Software's EDP product suite for its largest customers facing the challenges of accessing legacy data and those maintaining very large databases with high transaction rates and 24x7 availability requirements. The new EDP solution improves the quality and timeliness of data availability Refers to the degree to which data can be instantly accessed. The term is mostly associated with service levels that are set up either by the internal IT organization or that may be guaranteed by a third party datacenter or storage provider.  for SQL Server 7.0 performance by ensuring high-quality, currency and integrity of data. Providing this degree of availability is part of BMC Software's corporate strategy for Application Service Assurance (ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and (tm)).

"As mission-critical applications on SQL Server 7.0 become prevalent, we recognize the need to integrate existing data from IMS (1) See IP Multimedia Subsystem.

NYSE: BMC, is an American enterprise management software provider, focusing on IT infrastructure applications. BMC was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.  provides through their EDP solution, providing near real-time change propagation to our customers through products like ChangeDataMove."

With faster and easier access to operational data residing in legacy systems, customers will now be able to extend the power of their data warehousing See data warehouse.

More specifically, Analytic Applications are a type of Business Intelligence solution.  with minimal performance impact to their operational systems. BMC Software's new ChangeDataMove and DataMove software delivers this functionality to customers of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. The result of the integration is a high performance solution for capturing and propagating legacy data to business intelligence and analytic applications running on mainframe, open systems and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (R)-based databases.

"BMC is bringing the much needed capability of accessing legacy databases without impacting high performance systems like IMS, VSAM and even DB2," said George Mele, director of storage marketing for Amdahl Corporation. "During our benchmarks at Amdahl, the data capture technology of the ChangeDataMove product achieved very impressive performance numbers, that can address the needs of customers with extremely high transaction rates. Amdahl supports the world's largest heterogeneous enterprises with leading-edge technology and consulting services. This industry-leading combination enables customers to share valuable information from the mainframe to the desktop, while protecting their existing infrastructure and technology investments."

BMC Software's EDP strategy of keeping data warehouse information current involves moving large volumes of data from operational systems to data warehouse systems on a regular (weekly or nightly) basis. BMC Software's new EDP solutions, ChangeDataMove and DataMove, can automate the update of an operational data stores or data warehouse, with either high performance bulk data transfer or incremental changes captured and transformed from the operational systems.

Amdahl has technical field engineers and consultants trained in the area of data replication and information management. In addition, Amdahl is investing in the technical training of consultants to bring complete solutions and services to customers. Amdahl consultants offer a full suite of services and will assess customer environments and make recommendations accordingly. Trained technicians will not only propose solutions to customer problems, but they will also be able to implement and install that solution. Product installation, tuning and the training of customer DBAs and programmers will also be available

"The solution from BMC Software and supported by Amdahl gives companies with large data volumes and/or high transaction volumes the opportunity to build data warehouses much more quickly and with much less cost and risk," said Nancy Harris, director of product marketing data availability and solutions for BMC Software. "Amdahl endorses the EDP solution because it addresses the critical factors of data availability including quality, currency and integrity of data--all objectives of our ASA strategy."
