Performance and Adaptability for Fast Growing Businesses

Amdahl Corp. today announced significant enhancements to the LVS(TM) 4800 storage system including high-capacity 73-GB drives, a doubling of performance of the back-end disk pathing, and advanced new features that provide customers with a more agile storage environment.

Performance

A major increase in throughput has also been achieved by a move to 80 MB/sec back-end paths. With this extension, each LVS 4800 module now has 480 MB/sec of back-end bandwidth that is capable of sustaining application data streams of nearly 200 MB/sec. Multiple modules can be configured con·fig·ure

Adaptability

As storage requirements change, the user can choose from a combination of drive sizes and RAID organizations to meet their needs. Other enhancements include an internal partitioning feature, extended migration facilities, and a new centralized cen·tral·ize

management tool -- the Amdahl Storage Manager -- that allows the user to select the correct options for each application.

Together these facilities create a more agile customer environment, reduce cost of ownership, and protect a customer's previous investment.

Richard McCormack, vice president of Storage Marketing at Amdahl, explained: "The Java(TM)-based Amdahl Storage Manager tool allows storage management of all LVS 4800 modules to be centralized -- wherever they may be located. Adaptability and ease-of-use management tools are key to this market. With these enhancements, the LVS 4800 represents the best value available in open systems storage."

The fast back-end pathing and Amdahl Storage Manager are available immediately. The 73-GB drive will be available starting in October.
