:AMCRY) announced today that it's Canadian subsidiary, Twinpak Inc.'s dairy and food packaging unit plans to build a new plant in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

The 100,000 square foot plant, representing an investment of Can$20 million (A$18.5 million), will be built at Newport News, Virginia. Construction will begin soon and is expected to be completed by April 1997.

The plant will supply the dairy and food unit's new and existing customers in the eastern region of North America. An existing facility in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, which has completed a Can$6 million (A$5.5 million) expansion program in the past year, will continue to supply the central and western regions of North America. Twinpak's dairy and food unit manufactures printed and unprinted rigid containers and lids, using a solid phase, pressure forming process, for the dairy, food and food service markets. The Newport News plant will have an initial capacity in excess of 700 million units a year.
