Ambrosia Salad




Ambrosia ambrosia (ămbrō`zhə), in Greek mythology, food and drink with which the Olympian gods preserved their immortality. Extraordinarily fragrant, ambrosia was probably conceived of as a purified and idealized form of honey.  Salad  

A splash of coconut extract lends extra flavor and aroma to this traditional picnic favorite. 

  Ingredients

Serves 2 3/4 cups   

1 cup Mandarin oranges 

1 cup pineapple chunks 

1/2 cup sweetened sweet·en  
v. sweet·ened, sweet·en·ing, sweet·ens

v.tr.
1. To make sweet or sweeter by adding sugar, honey, saccharin, or another sweet substance.

2. To make more pleasant or agreeable.
 shredded coconut 

1/2 cup seedless Seed´less

a. 1. Without seed or seeds.

Adj. 1. seedless - lacking seeds; "seedless grapefruit"
seedy - full of seeds; "as seedy as a fig"

1 1/2  cups miniature marshmallows 

1 cup sour cream 

1/2 cup marshmallow creme Marshmallow creme is a uniquely American food item. It is a very sweet, spreadable, marshmallow-like confection and is popular amongst young children. Marshmallow Fluff and peanut butter are the fillings of a sandwich, the Fluffernutter.  (fluff )* 

1/4 cup pineapple juice 

1 teaspoon coconut extract 

* You'll find marshmallow creme (fluff) in your local supermarket. 

   Directions    
  1. Combine the oranges, pineapple, shredded coconut, grapes, and marshmallows in a medium bowl.
 
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, marshmallow fluff Noun 1. marshmallow fluff - a very sweet white spread resembling marshmallow candy
    paste, spread - a tasty mixture to be spread on bread or crackers or used in preparing other dishes
     pineapple juice, and coconut extract.
 
  1. Pour the dressing over the salad ingredients and mix to blend.
 
  1. Cover and chill 4–6 hours or overnight.
 
  1. Remove from the refrigerator 20 minutes before serving.


  

 Preparation time: 10 minutes plus 4–6+ downtime.
