Unit, Well no. 1 in Karnes County, Texas Karnes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 15,446. Its county seat is Karnes City6. Karnes County is named for Henry Wax Karnes, a soldier in the Texas Revolution. Geography According to the U.S. . The following report was received from the Operators Geologist: Yesterday we drilled in the Sheri zone from 10,500-11,00 feet. We had fair to good oil saturation. The rock was porous porous /por·ous/ (por´us) penetrated by pores and open spaces. po·rous adj. 1. Full of or having pores. 2. Admitting the passage of gas or liquid through pores. , as expected, and in 600 feet of drilling we saw many increases in gas in the mud -- up to 4778 units. However, we did not see the influxes of oil or the big flares of gas we usually see when crossing open fractures open fracture n. A fracture in which broken bone fragments lacerate soft tissue and protrude through an open wound in the skin. Also called compound fracture. . We were somewhat concerned with the lack of open fractures, so we decided to move the bit up to the C3 zone and drill there for 500-1000 feet to see what that zone looks like. While we were drilling the curve, the C zones looked hard and brittle -- what the rock generally needs to look like to have consistent fracturing. We expect to cross a large fault at 12,100 feet, about 700 feet from where we are drilling now. Between where we are now and the fault, we will position ourselves in what we think is the best zone. We expect that the fault will have lots of oil. After that point we should cross faults more often. Further updates will be released over the next few weeks as work progresses.
