Ambitious Dougherty has a pop at Dredge.

England's Nick Dougherty Nick Dougherty (born in Bootle, Merseyside on 24 May 1982) is an English golfer. He is a protégé of Nick Faldo and had an exceptional amateur career with numerous tournament wins including the 1999 World Boys Championship and three in Faldo Junior Series events.  yesterday bagged one of the nine qualifying spots at next week's US Open and immediately had a veiled dig at Welsh star Bradley Dredge Bradley Dredge (born 6 July 1973) is a Welsh golfer. Hanson also finished joint first two years ago, while Dougherty came through that day as well for what was then his first major.

"Pinehurst was the most eye-opening experience I've had in my pro career," he said.

"I find it unbelievable that you would pass up this opportunity.

"Everyone can make their own decisions - I must have a lot of ambition!"

Pontyclun's Sion Bebb had two rounds of contrasting fortunes to miss out, carding a 78 in his morning round before hitting back with a 69 after lunch.
