BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 2001

Joint Solution Offers Comprehensive Range of Revenue-Generating

Services and Can Be Seen At NFOEC 2001

Amber Networks, a leader in carrier-grade IP infrastructure products, and LuxN, a leading provider of protocol independent optical transport solutions, today announced the two are collaborating to deliver metropolitan area network solutions. The combination of LuxN's optical transport products and Amber Networks' high availability multiservice IP routers enables service providers to offer protocol agnostic optical services as well as native network services including IP Virtual Private Networks (VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. ), frame relay and TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  private-line at much lower cost and with greater efficiency. This converged solution creates a new level of service and reduces capital expense associated with the deployment of service-specific overlay infrastructures.

"Considering the current economic climate, service providers require solutions that help differentiate their services, improve ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  and optimize CAPEX spending," said Alex Dobrushin, vice president of marketing for Amber Networks. "Using our market leading products, carriers will gain the ability to adapt to the wide variety of customer demands and grow their revenues with greater agility."

The joint solution combines LuxN's optical level resiliency with the Amber Networks industry's first routing resiliency to deliver high availability metropolitan networks. This level of availability is unique in the industry, giving service providers the ability to deliver on critical service level agreements and providing new opportunities to increase revenues.

Agnes Imregh, vice president of marketing at LuxN said, "This solution using LuxN's and Amber's products combines the highest availability in IP/optical networks with a wide array of network services from optical transport to highly differentiated IP. This service breadth allows carriers the flexibility to meet customer demands while also reducing the total cost of ownership in the network."

It is managed and operated by the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association, a semi-private association started in 1980 by former Baltimore mayor William Donald  at NFOEC 2001 on July 9-11, 2001.

About Amber Networks

Amber Networks provides the world's first continuous routing platforms, purpose-built to deliver 99.999% (five nines) service availability in IP/MPLS IP/MPLS Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching  networks. Amber Networks' high availability ASR2000(TM) edge router family enhances service provider differentiation and enables the convergence of mission-critical IP and non-IP services (TDM, Frame Relay, and ATM) in order to significantly boost revenues and dramatically reduce the total cost of IP/MPLS networks. Amber Networks' IP infrastructure solutions are enhanced by edgeSpan(TM), the company's comprehensive element and service management suite designed to rapidly accelerate service velocity. Company headquarters are in Fremont, California. For more information, visit the Amber Networks website at http://www.ambernetworks.com.

About LuxN

LuxN, Inc. is a leading provider of carrier-class protocol independent optical transport solutions for metropolitan service providers. LuxN products allow fiber-based carriers to offer and deliver high-bandwidth, optical-based services. Using WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber.  technology, up to 64 channels of optical service traffic can be aggregated on a single fiber pair, providing improved fiber plant utilization. High-bandwidth services such as OC3/12/48, STM (Scanning Tunneling Microscope) A microscope that can image down to the atomic level. An STM uses a piezoelectric tube with a tiny sharp tip at the end that is moved within nanometers of the object being sampled. 1/4/16, Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, 10/100 BaseT, and T1 can all be easily accommodated. LuxN newest 6400 product series also provides efficient aggregation and switching of these services. LuxN is the first to offer Optical Service Level Management that permits per-wavelength performance monitoring to provide true Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics. The company was founded in June, 1998 and funded by prominent IT venture partners including New Enterprise Associates, US Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Azure Capital Partners and Credit Suisse First Boston Credit Suisse First Boston was originally the trading name of the Financière Crédit Suisse-First Boston, a London-based 50-50 investment banking joint venture formed in 1978 between the First Boston Corporation and Credit Suisse.  Private Equity.
