Amber's edgeSpan(TM) Leverages e-Commerce Technologies

to Deliver Carrier-Class Scale and Availability

Amber Networks today announced edgeSpan, the first suite of network service and element management applications designed to support Amber's Aggregation Service Routers. Combined with Amber's new ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) Using voice recognition to replace keypad entry for telephone voice menus. Typically used to speak the digits 0 through 9 insted of keying them, ASR systems may be able to recognize a limited vocabulary. See voice recognition and AVSR. 2000(TM) platform, edgeSpan allows service providers to rapidly create, provision, and monitor multiple services (TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission. , frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers. , ATM, IP, etc.) on the Optical Internet.

"Amber is shaping the Optical Internet by delivering the world's first Aggregation Service Routers and (an internet scale) comprehensive management approach," noted Suresh Bazaj, director of NMS See NetWare Management System.  product management for Amber Networks. "The edgeSpan suite delivers just that, by giving service providers the ability to rapidly deploy highly differentiated services Offerings that can be classified by type, or quality, of service. For example, a differentiated services network could prioritize real time traffic for a higher fee. . This management approach is crucial to the network service providers need to scale the service edge of the Optical Internet."

The edgeSpan suite delivers element and service management as well as a family of mediation agents that accommodate OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Manufactures include meat products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and metalware.  interface requirements for both next-generation and traditional service providers. It is the first carrier-class management suite built from the ground up to leverage technologies proven by leading e-commerce portals, ensuring a flexible and robust architecture designed for large scale service deployment. Moreover, the suite's familiar and proven browser-based interface significantly reduces training needs and speeds time to deployment.

The edgeSpan suite lets service providers securely partition resources in a shared physical network. By being able to virtualize To cause a virtual technique to be performed. Customers can also import partitioned information for use with their own billing, traffic engineering or capacity planning applications.

To ensure high availability, the edgeSpan suite can be deployed in a multi-tier clustered server environment that delivers the fault tolerance essential in a highly scalable, high transaction Optical Internet network.

Together with the ASR2000, edgeSpan will be available in the second half of the year.
