) today announced that Amber Networks is using its TEMUX and FREEDM FREEDM Frame Engine and Data Link Manager (TM)-84 chip set in the award winning ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) Using voice recognition to replace keypad entry for telephone voice menus. Typically used to speak the digits 0 through 9 insted of keying them, ASR systems may be able to recognize a limited vocabulary. See voice recognition and AVSR. 2000(TM) Aggregation Service Router.

The ASR2000 is the industry's first fault tolerant The ability to continue non-stop when a hardware failure occurs. A fault-tolerant system is designed from the ground up for reliability by building multiples of all critical components, such as CPUs, memories, disks and power supplies into the same computer.  carrier infrastructure platform that directs multiple service feeds (TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path. Each lower-speed signal is time sliced into one high-speed transmission.  private line, Frame Relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers. , ATM and IP) onto core IP networks. Integral to the ASR2000's architecture, the PMC-Sierra FREEDM-84/TEMUX chip set provides a comprehensive framer and mapper solution for high density T1 aggregation in less than half the number of chips compared to other currently available solutions.

"The use of PMC-Sierra technology enabled the ASR2000 to establish the industry benchmark for subscriber densities," said Steve Byars, principal analyst at Current Analysis. "Giving service providers substantially greater port density in limited space is an essential price/performance consideration today. Besides this, the ASR2000 is the industry's first multiservice aggregation product that gives service providers the ability to use IP as the protocol of choice for all network services."

Glenn Bindley, vice president and general manager of PMC-Sierra's Access Products Division stated, "We applaud Amber Networks' port density breakthrough and appreciate their input on next generation enhancements as we continue advancing the industry's highest density benchmark for T1/E1 products."

Amar Gupta Amar Gupta (b. 1953) was born in Nadiad, India. Gupta was admitted to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, Kanpur to study electrical engineering, graduating in 1974. , co-founder and chief technology officer of Amber Networks adds, "PMC-Sierra's TEMUX and FREEDM-84 chip set was crucial for the development of the ASR2000. Their solutions allowed us to take a market-leading position in port density and scalability."

The ASR2000 was selected as product of the month by Telecommunications Magazine for August 2000. It was also named the "Most Promising New Technology" in the backbone and edge equipment market space at this year's SUPERCOMM2000, winning the SUPERQuest Award.
