Ambassador John Bruton to Visit Providence April 4-5.


WASHINGTON -- Ambassador John Bruton of the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers. Located in Brussels, Belgium, it was founded in 1967 when the three treaty organizations comprising what was then the European Community  Delegation to the United States will visit Providence on April 4-5. He will give a lecture on Europe to mark the European Union's 50th anniversary to 800 students at the North Providence High School and address a Joint Session of Rhode Island Rhode Island, island, United States

Ambassador Bruton will also have meetings with Mayor David Cicillini, Governor Donald Carcieri and Senator Jack Reed. Topics to be discussed include the transatlantic economy, trade and globalization. He will attend a dinner hosted by Speaker of the State Senate, Bill Murphy, and President of the State Senate, Joseph Montalbano.

As for Rhode Island exports to Europe, Ambassador Bruton said that "Othe EU accounts for almost $3 billion annually in export and investment dollars earned by Rhode Island, supporting nearly 28,400 jobs within the state."
