Ambassador Bruton: We Need to Strike a Doha Deal.


WASHINGTON -- Ambassador John Bruton, Head of the European Commission European Commission, branch of the governing body of the European Union (EU) invested with executive and some legislative powers.  State Legislators, Ambassador Bruton said that if we let a Doha deal slip away "...the economic cost, and the lasting damage to the multilateral trading system, will be severe."

"Doha is conceptually a different kind of trade deal - one that self-consciously accepts the imperatives of development and in which the voice of the developing world has been and will be decisive," said Ambassador Bruton.

Ambassador Bruton gave his speech as part of his visit to Providence, April 4-5. His trip also includes a lecture on Europe and the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

European Community
 to North Providence High School students, and meetings with Mayor David Cicilline, Governor Donald Carcieri, Senator Jack Reed, House Speaker Bill Murphy, and President of the State Senate Joseph Montalbano.
