Born in Rochford, Essex in England, she moved with her family to Ontario, Canada when she was three years old.  won The Canadian Comedy Award for Best Actress in the film category for John Bolton's short film "Breakdown," nominated alongside esteemed Canadian actress Catherine O'Hara Catherine Anne O'Hara (born March 4, 1954) is a Canadian-American actress and comedian. She is well known for her comedy work on SCTV and the roles as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, Kate McCallister in Home Alone, Sally in . Amanda Tapping was notified while in Vancouver shooting season four of "Stargate Atlantis" that she won Best Actress at the 8th Annual Canadian Comedy Awards. Best known for her TV role as Samantha Carter Samantha "Sam" Carter (born December 29, 1968)[1] is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, played by English-Canadian actress Amanda Tapping.  starring on "Stargate SG-1" for ten seasons and continuing her character on spin-off series "Stargate Atlantis," Tapping also won two Sy Fy Genre Awards for Best Actress for her role on "Stargate SG-1" and Best Web Presentation for her new sci-fi/ fantasy based web series "Sanctuary," which she stars in and is also Executive Producer.

Tapping continues to portray her popular character on the successful spin-off series "Stargate Atlantis" and recently re-teamed with her SG-1 co-stars (filming portions north of the Arctic Circle) for two upcoming movies: "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" and "Stargate: Continuum," which are slated for release in 2008. In addition to her work on the Stargate franchise, Tapping is executive producing and starring in the new media series "Sanctuary," which will resume production in November.
