), today announced that Fortune has ranked AmSurg 39th on its annual list of the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in America America [for Amerigo Vespucci], the lands of the Western Hemisphere—North America, Central (or Middle) America, and South America. The world map published in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller is the first known cartographic use of the name. . In its first appearance on the list, AmSurg also ranked 10th in total investment return among the 100 companies appearing on the list.

The Fortune list is focused on U.S. companies with a market capitalization Market Capitalization

A measure of a public company's size. Market capitalization is the total dollar value of all outstanding shares. It's calculated by multiplying the number of shares times the current market price. This term is often referred to as market cap.
 in excess of $50 million and minimum revenues of $50 million for the trailing four quarters. Each company's ranking is determined based on its three-year average annual compound growth rate for earnings, revenues and total investment return. Over the three-year period, Fortune measured AmSurg's average annual growth for earnings at 34.2%, for revenues at 35.7% and for total investment return at 78.4%.
