testing using Alvarion's BreezeMAX(TM) platform, Airspan's AS.MAX product line, and Redline's AN-100U line of carrier-class Base Stations. The testing is designed to support the official WiMAX Forum(TM) certification process, which is scheduled to begin in July 2005.

Paul Senior, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Airspan Networks said: "The success of the WiMAX industry depends on speedy certification, which in turn depends on leaders cooperating on compatibility issues in advance. Airspan, Alvarion and Redline will deliver the first phase of compatibility and continue working towards full completion through the WiMAX certification lab, Cetecom, in Spain."

Rudy Leser, Vice President of Marketing at Alvarion, said: "This is a key milestone for the whole Broadband Access See broadband and wireless broadband.  industry and for the evolution to mass deployment of WiMAX networks. As we always have been the pioneers and innovators, this initiative of interoperability testing is a natural step in our commitment to the market to deliver state-of-the-art WiMAX products and enable widespread adoption of standards-based equipment. We welcome this vendor cooperative effort."

The focus of private interoperability testing is compatibility at the PHY See physical layer and physical.  layer, which supports the smooth transmission of data packets between the Base Station and multiple CPEs on the same channel. Interoperability, the foundation of standardization, will provide network operators with multi-vendor choices and competitive prices, helping to accelerate mass market adoption. The next phase of testing will focus on MAC layer and be based on completing the tests with the WiMAX Certification test suite.

Keith Doucet, Vice President of Marketing at Redline Communications, said: "This test represents an important step towards realizing the WiMAX Forum's vision of delivering a compelling broadband alternative to the market. We are very committed to the WiMAX Forum and look forward to providing a standards-based interoperable product to meet the needs of the market in the near future."

All three companies are exhibiting at the CeBIT 2005 show in Hanover, Germany, March 10-16.
